Background:

CD8 is a transmembrane glycoprotein receptor at the surface of cytotoxic T cell, natural killer cells and dendritic cells. CD8 binds major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC I) and arguments T cell activation by associating with T cell receptor. It plays an important role in the recognision and destruction of virally infected cells and tumour cells.
