TheKi-67nuclearantigenisassociatedwithcellproliferationandfoundthroughoutthecellcycle;thoughnotinG0phase(1,2).TheassessmentofKi-67proliferationinbreastcancershasshowntheKi-67labellingindexisanimportantpredictorofsurvival(3).Cytokeratin(CK)7isexpressedinepithelialcellsoftheovary,lungandbreast.RabbitmonoclonalCK7(CloneBC1)isoftenusedinconjunctionwithCK20andCDX-2indistinguishingpulmonary,ovarianandbreastcarcinomas(CK7+)frommostcoloncarcinomas(CK7-)(4).ClonesEP17andEP30recognizeCK8andCK18,bothofwhichrecognizelowmolecularweightintermediatefilamentproteins.Innormaltissues,CK8/18recognizesallsimpleandglandularepithelium(5).Inneoplastictissues,CK8/18mayproveusefulfortheidentificationofmostadenocarcinomasandsomesquamouscellcarcinomas.CK8/18expressionpatternsmayalsoaidintheclassificationoftumorsofunknownoriginandpoorlydifferentiatedcarcinomas(5-7).CK8/18rabbitmonoclonalmaybeusefulasastainingmaskinamultiplexstainwithmousemonoclonalantibodyKi-67.
