Human B cell Activating Factor (BAFF), is a Type II member of theTNF superfamily. Although it is typically a transmembrane proteinexpressed on T cells, macrophages and dendritic cells, it canalso be cleaved in the extracellular region to produce a solubleform detectable in the serum. BAFF is thought to be important forthe survival and maturation of peripheral B cells. BAFF initiatessignaling through three receptors with human BAFF having activityon mouse splenocytes.Recombinant human BAFF is a 153 amino acidprotein, which contains the TNF-like domain and has a molecularmass of 17.2 kDa.
