The technology allows for rapid and efficient fractionation of proteins or nucleic acids from complex biological specimens, such as serum and plasma, either manually or automatically. The refined protein may then be employed in downstream applications, including sample fractionation for 1D and 2D SDS-PAGE, X-ray crystallization, and NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, strong ion exchangers can prove to be valuable separation tools when weak ion exchangers fall short, owing to the distinct selectivity of weak and strong ion exchangers.
