Reagent used for the trifluoromethylation of various compounds; e.g. using copper or zinc powder in the presence of various catalysts.1,2Trifluoromethyl iodide has been used for nucleophilic trifluoromethylation of aldehydes and ketones based on photoinduced reduction of trifluoromethyl iodide by tetrakis(dimethylamino)ethylene (TDAE).3The reagent is also used for the rhodium-catalyzed-trifluoromethylation of α,β-unsaturated ketones,4and enantioselectiveα-trifluoromethylation of aldehydes via photoredox organocatalysis using a readily available iridium photocatalyst and a commercial imidazolidinone catalyst.5
