Description
Guanylin is a gastrointestinal peptide hormone that activates guanyl cyclase C primarily in intestinal epithelial cells, but also in neurons. Guanylin increases intracellular levels of cGMP and induces natriuresis and diuresis in the kidney. Guanylin inhibits cell proliferation of colonic cells, inducing cell cycle arrest.
