Background

Likecytochromecandcaspase-9,whicharecriticalmoleculesinapoptosis,AIFlocalizestomitochondria. AIFtranslocatestothenucleuswhenapoptosisisinducedandinducesmitochondriatoreleasetheapoptogenicproteinscytochromecandcaspase-9. AIFinduceschromatincondensationandlargescaleDNAfragmentation,whicharethehallmarksofapoptosis. Theseeffectsoccurinbothisolatednucleiandinthenucleioflivecellstreatedbymicroinjectionandwithapoptosisstimuli. AIFishighlyconservedbetweenhumanandmouseandiswidelyexpressed.Anti-AIFantibodyisidealforinvestigatorsinvolvedinDNADamageandRepairandChromatinresearch.
