Background
AntiApolipoproteinA-IantibodyrecognizesthegeneproductofAPOA1.Apolipoproteinpromotescholesteroleffluxfromtissuestotheliverforexcretion.ApolipoproteinA-Iisthemajorproteincomponentofhighdensitylipoprotein(HDL)intheplasma.Synthesizedintheliverandsmallintestine,itconsistsoftwoidenticalchainsof77aminoacids;an18-aminoacidsignalpeptideisremovedco-translationallyanda6-aminoacidpropeptideiscleavedpost-translationally.Variationinthelatterstep,inadditiontomodificationsleADIngtoso-calledisoforms,isresponsIBLeforsomeofthepolymorphismobserved.APOA1isacofactorforlecithincholesterolacyltransferase(LCAT)whichisresponsiblefortheformationofmostplasmacholesterylesters.TheAPOA1,APOC3andAPOA4genesarecloselylinkedinbothratandhumangenomes.TheA-IandA-IVgenesaretranscribedfromthesamestrand,whiletheC-IIIgeneistranscribedconvergentlyinrelationtoA-I.DefectsintheapolipoproteinA-1geneareassociatedwithHDLdeficiencyandTangierdisease.Thisantibodyissuitableforcardiovascularresearch.

Purity/Specifity
Thisproducthasbeenpreparedbyimmunoaffinitychromatographyusingimmobilizedantigensfollowedbyextensivecross-adsorptionagainstotherapoLipoproteinsandhumanserumproteinstoremoveanyunwantedspecificities. Typicallylessthan1%cross-reactivityagainstothertypesofapoLipoproteinwasdetectedbyELISAagainstpurifiedstandards. ThisantibodyreactswithmouseapoLipoproteinA-Iandhasnegligiblecross-reactivitywithTypeA-II,B,C-I,C-II,C-III,EandJapoLipoproteins. Specificcross-reactionofanti-apoLipoproteinantibodieswithantigensfromotherspecieshasnotbeendetermined.
