ThemonoclonalantibodyER-MP20specificallyreactswithmousemacrophageprecursorcellsinthemid-stageoftheirdevelopment(lateCFU-M,monoblastsandmonocytes).Theantigenisa14kDsurfaceproteinwhichisverysimilartoLy-6CandmaybeanalogoustohumanCD59.ItisinducIBLebyIFN-alpha,IFN-betaandIFN-gamma.Intissuesections,theantigenisfoundonmacrophageprecursorsubpopulations.Inthebonemarrowandhemopoieticislandsofthelymphoidorgans,andinthespleen.ActivatedmacrophagesininflammatorytissuesalsoexpresstheER-MP20-relatedantigen.ThemonoclonalantibodyER-MP20hasbeenraisedafterimmunizationofratswithmousemacrophagecelllinesandreactswithmousemacrophageprecursorcells.Themonoclonalantibodyalsoidentifiesactivatedmacrophagesininflammatorytissueswherethesimultaneoususeofthemurinepan-macrophageMarkerBM8(anti-F4/80)isrecommended.Incombinationwithananti-mouseCD31/PECAM-1antibody,ER-MP20canbeusedtoevaluatethecellularcompositioninmurinebonemarrow(e.g.usingflowcytometricanalysis).ER-MP20alsodetectsawiderangeofendothelialcells.
