Thisuniqueplatecoatingbufferisforusewithantibodiesandantigens.ThepHandionicstrengthofthisbufferhavebeenspecificallyformulatedtocreateanoptimalcoatingenvironmentwhichmaximizestheadsorptionefficiencyofmostantibodiesandproteinantigensontopolystyreneplatesurfaces. 
    
ThisbufferalsostABIlizescoatedproteinsbymaintainingtheirtertiarythree-dimensionalstructureduringtheadsorptionprocess.Bystabilizingtheadsorbedprotein,antigenicregionsarepreserved,allowingforgreaterbindingreactivitywiththedetectionmolecule,therebyenhancingthespecificsignal.
    

Bygeneratingahigherspecificsignal,alowerconcentrationofcoatproteinmaybeneededwhenthisbufferisused,therebysavingvaluablereagents.Thereisafinitequantityofproteinthatmaybecoatedeffectivelyontomicrotiterplates. Useofproteinconcentrationsinexcessoftheoptimalrangewillresultinsurfacesaturationandclumpingontheplatesurface. Thisproduceslowerspecificsignals,andhighernonspecificsignals.

Thecoatingbuffercontainsanantimicrobialagenttoretardbacterialgrowthduringtheplatecoatingprocess,allowingtheproceduretobeperformedatroomtemperature.Dependingontheactivityofthecoatedprotein,platesmaybestoredat2°-8°C(orevenatroomtemperatureforhardyproteins)forseveralmonths,orevenyears.
