2-Methoxyestradiol(2-MeOE2),anendogenousmetaboliteof17β-estradiol(E2),isaninhibitorofmicrotubuleassemblythatinhibitsthepolymerizationoftubulinandinterfereswithmitoticspindledynamicsleadingtotheblockageofmitosisofhumancancercellswhichlackestrogenreceptorsinmetaphase.2-MeOE2isalsoaninhibitoroftumorgrowthandangiogenesis.Studyresultshaveshownthat2-MeOE2inducesmammaliancelltransformationandgenotoxicityinSyrianhamsterembryo(SHE)fibroblaststhroughconcentration-dependentinhibitionofcellgrowth.Moreover,2-MeOE2hasdemonstratedanti-proliferativeactivityagainstestrogen-responsivebreastcancercelllineMCF-7andsubsequentinhibitionofthegrowthoftumorssubcutaneouslyinoculatedinmice.
