18:0-azo PC is an 18:0 PC embedded with an azobenzene moiety. Glycerophospholipids are major components of eukaryotic membranes and are involved in cell signaling through several mechanisms. With light irradiation, 18:0-azo PC can be switched on and off via light irradiation to force cis-/trans- isomerization of the azobenzene portion of the molecule which would result in cell signaling initiation or termination.
