GRK1isamemberoftheguaninenucleotide-bindingprotein(Gprotein)-coupledreceptorkinasesubfamilyoftheSer/Thrproteinkinases.GRK1mediatesrapiddesensitizationofrodphotoreceptorstolightbycatalyzingphosphorylationofthevisualpigmentrhodopsinwhichleadstoitsdeactivation(1).DefectsinGRK1areknowntocauseOguchidisease2(alsoknownasstationarynightblindnessOguchitype-2).GRK1canbephosphorylatedbyPKAandthisreducestheABIlityofGRK1tophosphorylaterhodopsininvitro(2).ItisspeculatedthatphosphorylationofGRK1byPKAinvivooccursinthedarkwhencAMPlevelsinphotoreceptorcellsareelevated.
