TheSofiaS.pneumoniaeFluorescentImmunoassay(FIA)usesadvancedimmunofluorescence-basedlateral-flowtechnologytodetect Streptococcuspneumoniacellwallpolysaccharide(CWPS) antigeninhumanurineofpatientswithpneumoniaandincerebralspinalfluid(CSF)specimensofpatientswithmeningitis.CWPSantigens,ifpresent,bindtothedetectionparticles.WhenthesamplemigratesuptheTestStriptotheTestLine,theantigen-conjugatecomplexisboundtothecaptureantibody,formingafluorescentline.Ifantigensarenotpresent,thefluorescentmicroparticleswillnotbetrappedbythecaptureantibodiesnordetectedbySofia.

Sofiawillscantheteststripandmeasuretheimmunofluorescentsignalbyprocessingtheresultsusingmethod-specificalgorithmsanddisplaythetestresults(Positive,Negative,orInvalid)onitsdisplayscreen.Thetestresultscanalsobeautomaticallyprintedonanintegratedprinterifthisoptionisselected.

Aninternalcontrollinehelpsensurethattherapid S.pneumoniae testhasbeenexecutedproperly,thatthekitreagentsareperformingappropriately,andthatadequateflowhasoccurredthroughtheteststrip.AnotherfluorescentlineshouldformattheControlpositionontheteststripeachtimeaspecimenorcontrolistested.Ifnocontrollineisdetected,thetestwillbereportedasinvalidbySofia.TheenhancedsensitivityoftheSofiaS.pneumoniaeFIAgivesyouaccuracyandconfidenceinrapidtesting.
