TheSofiaLegionellaFluorescentImmunoassay(FIA)usesadvancedimmunofluorescence-basedlateral-flowtechnologytodetectLegionellapneumophilaSEROgroup1antigeninhumanurinespecimensandisdesignedtotestspecimensfrompatientswithsymptomsofpneumonia.Legionellapneumophilaserogroup1antigens,ifpresent,bindtothedetectionparticles.WhenthesamplemigratesuptheTestStriptotheTestLine,theantigen-conjugatecomplexisboundtothecaptureantibody,formingafluorescentline.Ifantigensarenotpresent,thefluorescentmicroparticleswillnotbetrappedbythecaptureantibodiesnordetectedbySofia.

Sofiawillscantheteststripandmeasuretheimmunofluorescentsignalbyprocessingtheresultsusingmethod-specificalgorithmsanddisplaythetestresults(Positive,Negative,orInvalid)onitsdisplayscreen.Thetestresultscanalsobeautomaticallyprintedonanintegratedprinterifthisoptionisselected.

AninternalcontrollinehelpsensurethattherapidLegionellatesthasbeenexecutedproperly,thatthekitreagentsareperformingappropriately,andthatadequateflowhasoccurredthroughtheteststrip.AnotherfluorescentlineshouldformattheControlpositionontheteststripeachtimeaspecimenorcontrolistested.Ifnocontrollineisdetected,thetestwillbereportedasinvalidbySofia.TheenhancedsensitivityoftheSofiaLegionellaFIAgivesyouaccuracyandconfidenceinrapidtesting.
