Thrombopoietin (TPO) is a 95 kDa glycoprotein consisting of 332 amino acids that was cloned and identified in 1994. It is produced mainly in the liver and secondarily in the kidneys and bone marrow. It is a hematopoietic factor which stimulates primitive blood cells to grow (proliferate) and evolve into platelet-producing megakaryocytes. TPO is also known as a ligand of c-Mpl (Myeloproliferative leukemia protein) and is a key regulator of megakaryocytopoesis and thrombopoiesis.
This ELISA measures human TPO.
