Recombinant Human His6-ATG4B Protein, CF Summary
Product Datasheets
Carrier Free
CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins.Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.
In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Background: ATG4B
Autophagy related protein 4 homolog B (ATG4B), also known as Autophagy-related Protein 4b (Apg4b) is a cysteine protease and a member of the ATG4 protein family (ATG4A- ATG4D). It is a 393 amino acid (aa) protein with a predicted molecular weight of 44 kDa. Human ATG4B/Apg4b shares 95% aa sequence identity with its mouse ortholog. Members of the ATG4 family cleave the C-terminal sequences of the precursor forms of the Autophagy-related Protein 8 (Atg8) family of proteins, including GABARAP, GATE-16, and MAP-LC3 (1). This cleavage exposes the conserved C-terminal glycinethat is required for conjugation to phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) in the phagophore membrane and is necessary for autophagosome maturation (2).Although some ATG4 family members exhibit specificity for certain Atg8 proteins in vitro, ATG4B/Apg4b appears to be relatively non-selective (3).
