Description
Erdosteine is a thiol derivative that is clinically used to treat bronchitis and chronic obstructive lung diseases; it exhibits mucolytic, antioxidative, and anti-inflammatory activities. In vitro, erdosteine inhibits H2O2-induced oxidative stress and DNA damage in vitro by scavenging ROS. Additionally, this compound decreases levels of leukotriene B4 (LTB4) and leukotriene E4 (LTE4) in clinical subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
