3D Cellusponge is made of hydroxypropyl cellulose, a known biocompatible material, as the basic material that is side-chain modified for crosslinking and ligand conjugation.

The sponge disks are pre-sterilized and ready for cell seeding.The cell seeding is easy. It could be performed through absorption of cell suspension with desired cell density onto the surface of the dry sponge. After 30-60 minutes of incubation, fresh pre-warmed culture medium could be added for extended cell culture maintenance. The Cellusponges are available in 3 forms: original, galactosylated, conjugated with collagen. Many researchers have used these products, and they have successfully demonstrated spheroid formation using many cell types. - Cellusponge is best for cells requiring no specific ligand and various cancer cell lines (i.e. MCF-7 & MDA-MB, NIH3T3, human foreskin fibroblast HFF); - Cellusponge-Gal is best for hepatocytes used in in vitro drug testing and drug development (i.e. primary rat hepatocytes, primary human hepatocytes, hepatocyte cell lines); - Cellusponge-Coll is best for cells requiring collagen substratum (i.e. mouse and human embryonic stem cells mESC & hESC, human mesenchymal stem cells, primary cells). Features: 1. Hydrogel-based macroporous sponge (exclusive patent license). 2. Simple and efficient cell seeding procedure. 3. Cells distributed well in the sponge pores and could grow well. 4. Form functional spheroids within 24 hours post seeding and remian stable for at least 40 days. 5. Appropriate spheroid size that prevents apoptosis in the spheroids center. 6.
