Cellcycleregulatedproteinubiquitinationanddegradationwithinsubcellulardomainsisthoughttobeessentialforthenormalprogressionofmitosis.APC4isahighlyconservedcomponentoftheanaphasepromotingcomplex/cyclosome(APC/C),acellcycle-regulatedE3ubiquitinligasethatcontrolsprogressionthroughmitosisandtheG1phaseofthecellcycle.APC/CisresponsIBLefordegrADInganaphaseinhibitors,mitoticcyclins,andspindle-associatedproteinsensuringthateventsofmitosistakeplaceinpropersequence.TheindividualAPC/CcomponentsmRNAandproteinlevelsareexpressedatapproximatelythesamelevelsinmosttissuesandcelllines,suggestingthattheyperformtheirfunctionsaspartofacomplex.WhilelittleisknownofAPC4,itisthoughtthatAPC4associateswithotherAPC/CcomponentsAPC1,APC5,andCDC23interdependently,suchthatlossofanyonesubunitreducesbindingbetweentheremainingthree.
