Background
Angiopoietin-2(ANGPT2)isamemberoftheAngfamily,afamilyofangiogenicfactorsthatplaymajorrolesinangiogenesisduringthedevelopmentandgrowthofhumancancers,butalsoduringlymphangiogenesis.ANGPT2isgenerallyconsideredanantagoNISTofANGPT1andendothelialTEKtyrosinekinase(TIE-2,TEK).ANGPT2disruptsthevascularremodelingabilityofANGPT1andisthoughttoinduceendothelialcellapoptosis,resultinginvesselregression.ExpressionofANGPT2hasbeenlinkedtoinvasiveandmetastaticphenotypesofgliomasandothercancers.
