Serum/Plasmasamples
ForaccuratemeasurementofTrx1bloodlevels,theuseofplasmaisrecommendedsinceserumcontainshighlevelsofTrx1releasedfromplatelets.Tominimizetheplateletcontentinplasma,anadditionalcentrifugationat10,000xgfor10minutesinconnectionwiththeplasmapreparationisrecommended.

Thioredoxin-1
Thioredoxin-1(Trx1)isanoxidoreductaseproteinandthusmayactasananti-oxidantbyfacilitatingthereductionofcysteineresiduesofotherproteins.Besideskeepingtheintracellularmilieuinareducedstateandbeinginvolvedinthedefenceagainstoxidativestress,thioredoxin-1specificallyregulatesseveraltranscriptionfactorsandreceptors.Increasedplasmalevelsofthioredoxin-1hasbeenassociatedwithseveralpsychiatricdisorders.
