They are enriched in various bioactive molecules, such as lipids, proteins, mRNA and miRNA. Via transfer of the cargos, they play an important role in mediating intercellular communication. Growing experimental evidence indicates that MVs take part in many biological processes, involving inhibiting apoptosis, regulating immune, differentiation and proliferation. Moreover, MVs have the biological functions of antitumor, antibiosis and pro-angiogenenic.
