BackgroundTanespimycin (17-AAG) is a semi-synthetic analog of geldanamycin which is less toxic and more stable1. Selectively binds to and inhibits HSP90 from tumor cells displaying a 100-fold higher affinity for tumor cell-derived over normal cell HSP902. Displays anti-angiogenic activity3. Sensitizes tumor cells to apoptosis in response to such agents as taxol4 and cisplatin5. Cell permeable.
