Overview:
GRK3 or beta-adrenergic receptor kinase 2 specifically phosphorylates the agonist-occupied form of the beta-adrenergic and related G protein-coupled receptors. GRK3 is a member of the receptor kinase family that broadly serves to regulate receptor function (1). GRK3 has 85% amino acid similarity with beta adrenergic receptor kinase 1, with the protein kinase catalytic domain having 95% similarity. GRK3 is highly expressed in lung, heart, and adipose tissue (2). Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the promoter region of GRK3 have beenassociated with bipolar disorder.
