SGK3isamemberoftheSGKfamilyandencodesaphosphoproteinwithaPX(phoxhomology)domain.PKD1canphosphorylateandactivateSGK3invitro(1).A10-foldincreaseinPKD1increasesthephosphorylationstatusofSGK3.Whenexpressedinhumanembryonickidneycells,IGF1andperoxidesignificantlyactivateSGK3,andtheactivationcouldbereducedbypreincubationwithinhibitorsofPI3kinase.Ayeast2-hybridscreenfounddirectinteractionbetweenhumanSGK3andGSK3β.SGK3phosphorylatesseveraltargetproteinsandhasaroleinneutralaminoacidtransportandactivationofpotassiumandchloridechannels(2).
