DMPK(orMyotonicDystrophyProteinKinase)isaserine-threoninekinasethatiscloselyrelatedtootherkinasesthatinteractwithmembersoftheRhofamilyofsmallGTPases.DMPKproteinhasaleucine-richdomainattheN-terminus,aserine/threoninekinasedomaininthemiddle,andahydrophobicregionattheC-terminus.TheN-terminusofDMPKplaysanimportantroleinDMPKkinaseactivity,andtheC-terminusofDMPKdeterminestheintracellularlocalizationoftheprotein(1).Myotonicdystrophytype1isanautosomaldominantdiseasecausedbyatrinucleotiderepeat-expansion,cytosine-thymine-guanine(CTG)n,inthe3"untranslatedregionofDMPK(2).
