Glycogensynthasekinase3(GSK3)isaserine/threoninekinasethatisinvolvedintheregulationofmanysignalingpathways.Therehavebeentwoisoformsidentified,GSK3alphaandGSK3beta.GSK3betaisubiquitouslyexpressedinhumantissuesandisimplicatedinregulatingseveralphysiologicalprocesses.Theseincludethecontrolofglycogen,proteinsynthesisbyinsulinandmodulationofthetranscriptionfactorsAP-1andCREB.GSK3betahasbeenshowntoplayakeyinhibitoryroleinboththeinsulinandWntsignalingpathways(1).GSK3betaisinhibitedbyphosphorylationatSer9.InsulinsignalingislargelyresponsIBLeforthismodeofGSK3betainhibition(2).
